Atopic dermatitis (AD) has been shown to be significantly associated with thyroid dysfunction, possibly due to shared autoimmune processes and cytokine dysregulation. Previous studies lacked specificity in the interrogation of thyroid disease. To investigate the potential overlap between AD and thyroid diseases (specifically Graves’ disease and Hashimoto’s thyroiditis), researchers conducted a nested case-control study using data from the All of Us Research Program, an initiative by the National Institutes of Health which aims to collect health data from a diverse sample of over 1 million Americans.
